I found myself staring at a beautiful and very large tree. This isn’t unusual, except that I was in the middle of a big city. The tree was in a pot big enough for all of us to hide inside it. BIGGER than a Buick.
I stared at the tree for several minutes. It looked like a piece of art surrounded by tons of concrete. I found myself thinking how wonderful it only needed a few conditions to do well, soil, water and sun. The tree’s need for sun made it more interesting to the eye.
The tree was eleven stories high. That’s quite a height … that’s a lot of shade I thought to myself.

How very Buddhist of you. Funny, I have been a slacker about my meditation class and consider this post to be a very clear sign that I must go tonight.
Interesting how under just the right conditions the most impossible things become possible.

Yes, I hear what you’re thinking. And that takes me here: where water comes from. The chaotic explosion that happened in the Universe that created all of life. All of this! It’s ours to enjoy. Now I’m feeling lucky again.

Isn’t it amazing how the very same thing can be so much more beautiful when it is in contrast to its surroundings–like, who really appreciates the beauty of a tree when they live in a forest? But to see one against a stark urban background–it’s almost poetic.
Hmm, and I haven’t even meditated yet!

It is amazing what catches our interest. The tree like us can adapt to a hard environment and still be what it is, a tree.
